Te mapa
Livonia is in western Wayne County, Michigan, just west of Detroit. Few American places show the survey grid so clearly. Major roads run exactly one mile apart in both directions. The east to west roads are the numbered Mile Roads, which count up from downtown Detroit, and Eight Mile Road forms the city's northern edge.
Inside each square mile, postwar subdivisions fill the land with curving residential streets, cul-de-sacs, schools and parks. Most of the city was built quickly in the decades after the Second World War. Interstate 96 crosses the south of the city, and Interstate 275 runs along its western side.
Branches of the Rouge River wind through the grid at an angle, followed by parks and green space. A Livonia map poster is a pleasure to read: a strong mile grid, softer neighbourhood patterns inside each square, and river valleys cutting across both.
Main roads exactly one mile apart divide the city into regular squares. Eight Mile Road marks the northern boundary of the frame.
Branches of the Rouge River wind diagonally across the city, lined with parkland. They interrupt the strict grid with loose, natural curves.
I-96 and I-275 cross the city with wide, sweeping lines and cloverleaf interchanges. They add the boldest shapes to the map.
