The provincial boundary runs along the city's main north–south avenue. Tall survey-marker posts stand beside it, and the axis divides the poster neatly into Alberta and Saskatchewan halves.

Lloydminster is one of Canada's few cities that sit in two provinces at once. The Alberta–Saskatchewan boundary follows the Fourth Meridian, and in Lloydminster that line runs straight through the centre of town along its main north–south avenue. It is a single city with one municipal government, divided on paper between two provinces.
The map is a textbook prairie grid of long, straight avenues and numbered streets, laid on almost perfectly flat land. The border avenue runs through it as a central axis, and newer subdivisions with curving crescents spread out at the edges. Farmland and survey-grid roads extend in every direction.
Lloydminster was founded in 1903 by the Barr Colonists, settlers from Britain, and named after the Reverend George Lloyd. A Lloydminster map poster gives that history a graphic form: an evenly ruled town with an invisible provincial line running exactly through its middle.
The provincial boundary runs along the city's main north–south avenue. Tall survey-marker posts stand beside it, and the axis divides the poster neatly into Alberta and Saskatchewan halves.
Straight avenues and streets cross at right angles across flat land. At poster scale the regular pattern reads almost like graph paper, broken only by later curving subdivisions.
Outside town, range roads and township roads continue the Dominion Land Survey grid into the farmland, stretching the city's geometry out to the edge of the map.

Koteā ko Lloydminster
A Lloydminster map is a good conversation piece, since the border running down the middle explains itself. It also means a lot to people who grew up here, worked in the region's energy and agriculture industries, or have moved away and miss the wide prairie sky.
