Te mapa
Loei is the capital of Loei Province, in the north-east of Thailand, and sits in a valley surrounded by forested hills and mountains. The Loei River winds through the town, and on a map its bends are the most distinctive feature, with streets following the water, bridges crossing it and the built-up area spreading out along both banks.
The province is known for its cool season and mountain landscapes, including the high plateau of Phu Kradueng National Park to the south. It is also known for the Phi Ta Khon festival in Dan Sai district, with its elaborate masks. Around Loei town the land mixes fields, plantations and hills, with roads running along valleys toward neighbouring districts.
A Loei map poster captures a town shaped by its river and its setting. The meandering water, the modest grid of the centre and the roads leading out into the hills together form a composition with natural movement, particularly in styles like Paper or Sand, where the landscape takes on a quiet warmth.
The river curves through the town in wide bends crossed by bridges, the strongest natural line on the map and the key to the whole composition.
Near the river, the central streets form a compact, loosely regular grid where most of the town's shops and public buildings are concentrated.
Main roads leave town along valleys between the hills, long lines that connect Loei to the rest of the province and the mountain country beyond.
