Long’e Map Poster
Long’e is a town in the far southeast of Guizhou, close to where the province meets Hunan and Guangxi. It lies in Qiandongnan, a prefecture of steep ridges, terraced slopes and narrow river valleys, where the Dong and Miao peoples make up a large share of the population. From above, the land shapes the town more than any plan does.
Streets follow the valley floor and the contours of the slopes, so the built area stretches along the easiest ground rather than spreading evenly in all directions. Roads wind in from the surrounding hills and bend sharply to cross the terrain. Around the town, scattered villages sit in hollows and on spurs, linked by thin lines that trace the mountain folds.
