Te mapa
Lucban is a municipality in Quezon province, on the island of Luzon, set on the lower slopes of Mount Banahaw. The town centre follows the Spanish colonial pattern of a church, plaza and surrounding blocks, with streets running in a fairly regular grid before bending with the terrain as they reach higher ground and the farms beyond.
Lucban is best known for the Pahiyas Festival, held each May in honour of San Isidro Labrador, patron of farmers. Houses along the procession route are decorated with rice, fruit, vegetables and colourful kiping, thin leaf-shaped rice wafers. The town is also known for its garlicky Lucban longganisa and for pancit habhab, noodles traditionally eaten straight from a banana leaf.
A Lucban map poster shows the town as a compact settlement where the grid of the poblacion meets the sloping countryside. Roads wind out toward neighbouring towns and up toward Banahaw, and the contrast between the dense centre and the open land around it gives the design a calm, grounded feel.
The Church of Saint Louis of Toulouse and its plaza anchor the poblacion, with the town's regular street pattern spreading out around them in every direction.
Each May the streets around the centre become the Pahiyas procession route, with house facades covered in kiping and harvest produce along the way.
Toward the mountain the land rises and the streets thin out, giving way to farmland and winding roads that climb onto the forested slopes.
