Te mapa
Lünen lies at the northern edge of the Ruhr, just north of Dortmund. On a map the river Lippe crosses the town from east to west, and the Datteln-Hamm Canal runs nearby on a straighter parallel course. The two waterways, one natural and one engineered, frame the old centre and give the composition a strong horizontal flow.
For much of the twentieth century Lünen was a coal-mining and industrial town. The pits have closed, and former colliery sites have been turned into parks and lakes. The best known is the Colani-Ei, a futuristic pod by the designer Luigi Colani set on top of an old mine building. The traces of industry are still readable in the street pattern.
A Lünen map poster captures a typical Ruhr landscape. Compact historic streets sit close to the river, rail lines fan out toward Dortmund, and housing estates grew up around the former pits. Green spaces left by the mines break up the dense urban fabric, and in black and white they look like soft pauses between the streets.
The winding Lippe and the straight Datteln-Hamm Canal run side by side across the town. Together they form a double line that anchors the whole map.
Sites of closed mines have become parks, lakes and open ground. They show up as large, calm areas between denser neighbourhoods.
Railway lines and main roads head south toward Dortmund and across the Ruhr, tying Lünen into the region's tightly knit urban network.

Koteā ko Lünen
Lünen will speak to anyone whose family worked in the Ruhr mines or who grew up along the Lippe. The river and canal give the print a clear structure that reads well even at the smaller sizes.
Change the title and subtitle to a family name, a neighbourhood or a date, and choose from five styles. Noir makes the industrial geometry look especially sharp, while Paper gives it a softer, archival feel.
