Luotian is a town in the municipality of Chongqing, in the hill country east of the city proper, not far from Wanzhou on the Yangtze. This is a landscape of ridges, valleys and farmland worked into the slopes, and towns here are shaped by the ground as much as by planning. On a map, the result is compact, irregular and closely fitted to the terrain.
From above, Luotian appears as a tight cluster of streets wherever the valley floor allows, with lanes following the contours instead of straight lines.
