Te mapa
Luwero sits on the main highway running north from Kampala towards Gulu, and the town takes its shape from that road. From above, the highway is the spine: shops, markets and offices line it, and short side streets branch off into residential areas. Beyond them the density drops quickly into farmland, scattered homesteads and patches of trees.
The surrounding landscape is gently rolling, typical of central Uganda, and roads follow the land rather than a grid. Tracks spread out from the town to nearby villages, forming a loose network that gets thinner the further you move from the centre. The result is a map where one strong line is surrounded by fine, irregular detail.
A Luwero map poster also carries history. The town gave its name to the Luwero Triangle, the area north of Kampala that was at the centre of the Ugandan Bush War in the early 1980s. Today it is a district centre and a regular stop for travellers heading north, and its map shows a busy highway town in open country.
The road from Kampala runs straight through town and organises everything around it. On the poster it is the boldest line, with the town gathered along both sides.
Around the highway, the markets and administrative buildings form the densest cluster of streets, a short stretch where the side roads come closest together.
Beyond the centre, lanes and footpaths spread out across the rolling countryside towards nearby villages, giving the map's edges a loose, organic texture.
