Te mapa
Mādāyi lies in Kannur district on the northern Kerala coast, close to the town of Pazhayangadi. The map here is shaped by water: the Arabian Sea shore to the west, and a network of estuaries, creeks and backwaters that thread between low land and mangrove edges. Roads keep to the drier ground, which gives the street pattern its irregular, branching form.
Rising above this is Madayippara, a flat-topped laterite hill whose rocky surface stays largely open. It is known for its seasonal grasslands, which bloom with wildflowers after the monsoon and support many species of butterflies and birds. On the map it appears as a broad pale area with few lines, sharply different from the settled lowland around it.
The area has long religious and historical associations. The Madayi mosque is traditionally linked to the early spread of Islam on the Malabar coast, and the Vadukunda Shiva temple stands on the plateau. A Mādāyi map poster records these layers within a small area of hill, river and coast, together with the old routes that connect them.
A flat laterite hilltop with sparse roads, it shows as a quiet open space on the map, surrounded by denser settlement on its lower slopes.
Tidal waterways wind inland from the coast, splitting the land into irregular fingers that make the map feel more like a delta than a town plan.
The coastline runs along the western side as a long, calm line, giving the composition a clear edge and a sense of openness.
