Te mapa
Mae Sot lies in Tak Province in western Thailand, right beside the border with Myanmar. The Moei River marks the frontier just west of town, and on a map its winding course forms a natural edge to the built-up area. On the far bank lies Myawaddy, the Myanmar town that faces Mae Sot across the water.
The two countries are linked here by the Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge, and a newer crossing has been added nearby. Mae Sot is an important trading point between the two countries, and its markets and roads reflect that role. Hills rise to the east, and the main road towards Tak climbs over them.
A Mae Sot map poster shows a town defined by its frontier. Streets gather in the centre, roads lead out towards the river crossings, and the Moei winds along the western side. For people who have lived, worked or travelled here, it is a map with a very particular story.
The Moei runs along the western side of the town and forms the border with Myanmar, drawing a winding line that divides the map in two.
The Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge links Mae Sot with Myawaddy, a single clear crossing that marks the town's role as a gateway between countries.
Hills rise to the east of the town, and the road to Tak winds up into them, giving the map a change of texture on its far side.
