Te mapa
Mahilyow, often written Mogilev, lies in eastern Belarus on the Dnieper River. The historic core stands on the high right bank, where the land drops steeply toward the water, while newer districts spread across both banks and join through a handful of bridges. On a map the river gives the city a strong, sweeping line that everything else arranges itself around.
The small Dubrovenka River cuts through the centre in a narrow valley before meeting the Dnieper, and its ravine is lined with parkland. From the old centre, long straight avenues run outward toward the residential microdistricts, whose large blocks of housing form a more regular pattern than the older streets near the river.
The city was first recorded in the thirteenth century and served for a time as the headquarters of the Russian Imperial Army during the First World War. Its reconstructed town hall stands again on the central square. A Mahilyow map poster shows the contrast between the historic riverside quarter and the planned outer districts.
The river swings past the city in a broad arc, separating the elevated historic core from low-lying districts on the opposite bank and anchoring the whole composition.
A small tributary carves a green valley through the centre, visible as a winding strip of park that interrupts the streets before reaching the Dnieper.
Wide main streets lead away from the centre toward outer housing districts, dividing the city into clear sectors that read well at any print size.
