Te mapa
Malanje lies on a high plateau in north-central Angola, well inland from Luanda, surrounded by savanna and farmland. The city is compact at its centre, with a grid of streets laid out in the colonial period, and expands outward into less regular neighbourhoods. The Luanda railway ends here, and its line and terminus remain a clear feature on the map.
The province is known for its natural landmarks, including the Kalandula Falls, among the largest waterfalls in Africa by volume, and the tall black rock formations of Pungo Andongo. Cangandala National Park, not far from the city, protects the giant sable antelope, an animal that has become a national symbol of Angola.
A Malanje map poster presents a city with no coast and no great river crossing it. Instead it is drawn by the railway, a few long roads and the loosening edge where streets meet open country. The result is a calm, balanced print with a clear centre and plenty of space around it.
The older core is laid out in a regular grid of wide streets, the most orderly and densest part of the city on the map.
The line from Luanda arrives and ends in Malanje, drawing a long curve into the city and a final open area around the station.
Beyond the centre, the city thins into scattered settlement and farmland, leaving wide blank margins that set the urban shape apart.
