Te mapa
Manitoulin Island in Ontario is the largest island in any freshwater lake in the world. It separates the main body of Lake Huron from the North Channel and Georgian Bay. From above its outline is long and ragged, with deep bays reaching far into the land from both north and south until the island seems close to breaking into pieces.
The island holds more than a hundred lakes of its own, including Lake Manitou, the largest lake on an island in a freshwater lake. Much of the island is Anishinaabe territory, including the unceded Wiikwemikong First Nation on its eastern peninsula. Little Current, on the north shore, is connected to the mainland by a single swing bridge.
A Manitoulin Island map poster works at a landscape scale. Highways, small towns and rural concession roads form a loose grid across the island, but the real subject is the interplay of land and water: bays, inland lakes and the scatter of smaller islands along the North Channel. It is one of the most intricate freshwater coastlines anywhere.
Inland lakes, led by Lake Manitou, cover a large part of the interior. On the map they appear as white shapes cut into the land, echoing the lake outside.
Long bays push into the island from Lake Huron and the North Channel. They give the coastline its jagged, branching outline and leave narrow necks of land in between.
The only road link to the mainland crosses a narrow channel at Little Current. On the map it is the single thread joining the island to the north shore.

Koteā ko Manitoulin Island
Manitoulin is hung by people who grew up there, spent summers at a cottage on one of its lakes, or have family ties to its First Nations communities. The poster holds the whole island at once.
Put a community name, a cottage road or a year in the title and subtitle, and adjust the coordinates line. Blueprint suits all that water, and Sand gives the farmland and shoreline a warm, understated finish.
