Masagua lies in the department of Escuintla, on the warm Pacific coastal plain of southern Guatemala. The land here slopes gently from the volcanic highlands toward the ocean, and on the map the town appears as a small, compact centre set among wide agricultural fields and scattered rural communities.
The coastal lowlands are shaped by rivers descending from the highlands, and their courses cross the plain in long southward lines. Around Masagua, the landscape is dominated by large cultivated plots, with farm roads running in straight lines between them and connecting the town to the neighbouring settlements.
The municipality stretches well beyond its main town, taking in villages and farms across the lowlands.
