Te mapa
This Matamoros belongs to Coahuila and forms part of the Comarca Lagunera, the metropolitan and agricultural region centred on Torreón. From above, the town is a neat grid of blocks surrounded by a flat, geometric patchwork of irrigated fields. The desert basin around it is dry, so the green of cultivation follows canals and ditches in long straight lines.
The town takes its name from Mariano Matamoros, a priest and insurgent leader in Mexico's war of independence. Its compact centre, with a main plaza and regular streets, extends outward into newer neighbourhoods that follow the same orthogonal logic, meeting the highways that tie it to the rest of La Laguna.
A Matamoros map poster shows how thoroughly geometry governs this landscape. The town grid and the field grid almost merge, broken only by roads and canals. Printed in black and white, it becomes a crisp, rhythmic pattern, well suited to a modern interior or a gift for someone from the Laguna region.
The centre is laid out in a regular grid of blocks around a plaza, a pattern that repeats with little variation across the whole urban area.
Rectangular farm plots surround the town, their boundaries marked by canals and tracks that continue the town's straight lines into the countryside.
Highways connect Matamoros westward to Torreón and the wider metropolitan area, cutting diagonal or straight lines through the agricultural plain.
