Te mapa
Meishan lies at the southern edge of the Chengdu Plain, south of Chengdu, where the Min River widens on its way towards Leshan. The river is the defining feature of the city's layout. Its broad channel, sandbars and low islands run the full height of the frame. The urban area has grown on both sides, with bridges carrying roads across at intervals.
The older part of the city keeps a tighter street pattern, and newer districts spread in wider, more geometric blocks with parks and lakes. On a Meishan map poster, the river reads as a strong, pale band through the middle of the composition. The finer textures of streets gather on either side and loosen into farmland at the edges.
Meishan is best known as the hometown of Su Shi, also called Su Dongpo, one of the most celebrated poets and essayists of the Song dynasty. His father Su Xun and brother Su Zhe were famous writers too, and the family home is preserved as the Three Su Shrine. The central district is named Dongpo in his honour, giving the city a literary identity few places share.
A wide river with sandbars and islands runs through the city. It forms the central axis of the map and divides the urban area into two banks.
Several bridges cross the broad channel. They appear as clean horizontal strokes that join the older core to the newer districts on the opposite bank.
Newer districts include planned parks and artificial lakes. Their smooth outlines contrast with the regular blocks around them and add quieter spaces to the composition.
