Te mapa
Metu lies in the forested highlands of southwestern Ethiopia, in the Oromiya region. From above, the town is shaped by terrain rather than by any plan: roads follow the ridges and valleys, and neighbourhoods fill the flatter ground between them. The result is an organic, branching pattern with the main road as its spine.
The town was once the administrative centre of the old Illubabor province, and it remains a local hub for a region known for its forests and coffee. Mettu University has given it a growing student population, and its presence adds new streets and buildings to the edges of the older town.
A Metu map poster shows a town that has grown into its landscape instead of flattening it. The streets curve, split and rejoin as the ground demands, and the surrounding country is crossed by only a few routes. In monochrome, those lines become a simple and honest portrait of a highland place.
The principal road runs through the town and anchors the street network, with smaller lanes branching off toward the neighbourhoods on either side.
Instead of a grid, the streets follow the rise and fall of the highland ground, producing curving, irregular lines that give the map its character.
Mettu University adds a campus area to the town, a newer part of the map where the street pattern shifts to accommodate academic buildings and open grounds.

Koteā ko Metu
This map is for people with ties to Metu, whether they studied at the university, grew up in the town or have family in Illubabor. It offers an understated way to keep a highland home on the wall, far from the place itself.
