Te mapa
Mexicali, the capital of Baja California, sits directly on the border with the United States, facing its twin town of Calexico across the line. The land is almost perfectly flat, part of the low valley that continues north into California's Imperial Valley, and the city's streets form broad grids that change orientation from one district to the next.
Irrigation from the Colorado River turned the surrounding desert into farmland in the early twentieth century, and the canals and rectangular fields of the Mexicali Valley extend to the south and east. Chinese workers came to the region in large numbers in that period, and downtown still has a historic Chinese quarter known as La Chinesca, along with a strong tradition of Chinese-Mexican cooking.
A Mexicali map poster shows a city defined by straight lines: the border, the street grids, the canals and the field boundaries. To the southwest, the Sierra Cucapá rises beyond the urban edge. The name joins Mexico and California, just as Calexico reverses the idea, and summers here are among the hottest of any large city in Mexico.
The international boundary runs as a straight line along the northern edge of the city, where the Mexicali grid meets Calexico and the streets on each side stop abruptly.
Irrigation canals and drains cut across the flat valley in long straight lines, dividing the land into rectangular fields that surround the city on several sides.
The historic Chinese quarter near the downtown border crossing keeps a dense block pattern and a long history of shops, restaurants and community associations.

Koteā ko Mexicali
Mexicali is a city people either grew up in or remember sharply, for its heat, its food and its place on the line between two countries. The map's strong geometry makes a graphic, modern poster that suits apartments, offices and studios alike.
Personalise the title with Mexicali, a neighbourhood or a family name, add a subtitle and edit the coordinates line. All five styles are available, and Sand suits the desert setting. Preview it free, then download HD files for $9 or order a print.
