Te mapa
Mimarsinan is a neighbourhood of Büyükçekmece on the European side of Istanbul, facing the Sea of Marmara on the city's far western edge. Its map is framed by water: the long, gently curving coastline to the south and, a short distance east, the outlet of Büyükçekmece Lake, a lagoon separated from the sea by a narrow strip of land.
Streets run in fairly regular rows parallel to the shore, lined with apartment blocks and summer houses that have filled in over recent decades. A coast road follows the waterline, and parks and promenades soften the seafront. Inland, the neighbourhood rises gently toward the main highways that connect Büyükçekmece with central Istanbul and with Thrace to the west.
The neighbourhood takes its name from Mimar Sinan, the great Ottoman architect, whose sixteenth-century stone bridge still crosses the mouth of the lake at Büyükçekmece. A Mimarsinan map poster shows a place where the seaside rhythm of Istanbul's western suburbs meets one of the finest works of classical Ottoman engineering.
The shore sweeps along the southern edge of the neighbourhood in a smooth line, giving the poster a clean horizon of open water.
The multi-arched Ottoman bridge crosses the lagoon outlet nearby, a slender line joining the two banks as it has since the sixteenth century.
Rows of streets run parallel to the sea, filled with apartment blocks and holiday homes that create a regular, layered pattern inland from the coast.
