Te mapa
Mizunami lies in the Tōnō area of eastern Gifu, a landscape of low mountains and narrow valleys. Its map follows that terrain closely. The main streets and railway run along the valley of the Toki River, and the developed area stretches in a long band, with side valleys branching off into smaller settlements.
The centre clusters around the station and the river, with a relatively tight grid squeezed onto the flat land. Beyond it, roads climb into the surrounding hills in winding lines, and the gaps between them are forest. The result on paper is a narrow, branching shape rather than a round town.
A Mizunami map poster shows a city defined by its valleys. The area is part of the Mino ware pottery tradition, and the city is home to the Mizunami Fossil Museum, which reflects the rich fossil beds found in the local rock. Both tie the place closely to the ground beneath its streets.
The river runs through the city and sets its whole orientation, with the main roads, railway and centre lined up along the valley floor.
Smaller valleys reach out from the centre, each with its own thread of houses and roads, giving the map a tree-like outline.
Hills covered in forest fill the spaces between settlements, leaving large calm areas on the map that frame the thin lines of streets.

Koteā ko Mizunami
Mizunami suits people with family ties to eastern Gifu, pottery lovers who know the Mino tradition, and anyone who appreciates how Japanese towns adapt to mountain terrain. The branching layout makes it an unusual, quietly striking poster.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, in Latin letters or with a meaningful date, and choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. HD files cost $9, or order a matte print with a wooden frame.
