Te mapa
Mörön is the capital of Khövsgöl Province in northern Mongolia, set on an open steppe valley near the Delgermörön river. From above, it has two distinct textures. A central area of straight streets holds administrative buildings, apartment blocks and a square. Around it lie ger districts, where fenced family plots form a large patchwork of small rectangles.
For most travellers, the town is the gateway to Lake Khövsgöl, which lies roughly a hundred kilometres to the north. Near the town lies Uushigiin Övör, a site with Bronze Age deer stones: carved standing stones that are among the best-known archaeological monuments in Mongolia.
The Mörön map poster shows how the town sits against the steppe. The regular centre gives way to the grid of fenced plots, and then everything opens into empty valley and hills. Roads leave town in long, unbroken lines. It is a clear picture of a provincial capital with wide land on every side.
Around the centre, fenced family plots called khashaa form a dense grid of small rectangles. It is a pattern distinctive to Mongolian towns and looks striking in fine line.
The town core has straighter, wider streets around public buildings and a main square. It is visibly more planned than the plot districts surrounding it.
The Delgermörön river passes near the town, and open steppe spreads beyond the last streets. Together they give the map a wide, spacious border.

Koteā ko Mörön
For people from Khövsgöl, and for travellers who passed through Mörön on the way to the lake, this map marks the point where the road north begins. Its mix of grid and open steppe also makes a strong minimalist piece on its own.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, and add the date of a journey or a homecoming. Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Sand echoes the colours of the steppe.
