Monkayo is a municipality in Davao de Oro on the island of Mindanao, stretching from farmland in the upper Agusan valley into rugged mountains to the east. On the map, the town centre forms a small grid along the main highway, with barangays spread out along roads and rivers across a large territory.
The municipality is widely known for Mount Diwalwal, the site of a major gold rush in the 1980s, and mining remains part of the local story. The hills are cut by streams draining toward the valley, and plantations and rice fields fill much of the flatter land nearer the town.
