Te mapa
Montepuez sits in the interior of Cabo Delgado Province in northern Mozambique, well inland from the Indian Ocean coast. From above, the town has no dense historic core. It reads as a central cluster of blocks around the main roads, and the grid loosens into scattered lanes and compounds as it runs into the open country around it. The road network makes the pattern. A few through-routes carry most of the town, and smaller tracks branch off between them.
The town takes its name from the Montepuez River, which flows east across the province toward the coast. On a map, the lines of rivers and seasonal watercourses in the district show how the land drains toward the sea. The town itself sits on higher, drier ground. That contrast between the tight street pattern at the centre and the sparse lines of the countryside is what gives a Montepuez map poster its character.
Beyond the town, the district is known internationally for its ruby deposits, some of the most significant found anywhere in recent decades. For most residents, though, Montepuez is a district seat and a trading town where roads from the interior meet before heading east toward Pemba. The map records that everyday role. You see a place built around movement and exchange, with streets that follow need more than a formal plan.
The main route east to the provincial capital on the coast runs through town. On the map it is the strongest single line, and much of the street network hangs from it.
The central blocks are fairly compact. Toward the edges, streets thin out into irregular lanes and plots, so the poster fades gradually from dense line work to open space.
The Montepuez River and its tributaries cross the surrounding district on their way to the Indian Ocean. They add slow, winding lines that contrast with the straighter roads.

Koteā ko Montepuez
Montepuez is rarely printed on anything, which is one reason to hang it. It suits people who were born there, worked in the district or spent time in northern Mozambique, and want a record of a place that most maps pass over.
You can set the title, subtitle and coordinates line yourself, for example a family name, a year or the dates of a posting. Then choose from Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand to suit the room where it will hang.
