Te mapa
Moothakunnam is a locality in Ernakulam district, in central Kerala, near the coast north of Kochi. This is backwater country, where rivers divide into channels near the sea and the land breaks into strips and islands between them. From above, the map is as much water as land, with lanes and houses following the narrow strips of dry ground.
Settlement here is scattered, not concentrated. Houses sit on their own plots among coconut palms, and lanes run along the channels or cut across to the main road. Bridges and ferry points link the pieces of land. The pattern is soft and irregular, shaped by water instead of by any grid.
A Moothakunnam map poster shows the particular geography of the Kerala backwaters: winding channels, fragments of land and the thin roads that stitch them together. It is a very different image from a city map, with open space, curving outlines and fine detail. It makes a calm, distinctive picture for any wall.
Waterways branch and wind through the area, splitting the land into strips and islands. They form the dominant pattern of the whole map.
A main road runs through the locality, with smaller lanes branching off along the water's edge. Bridges carry the network across the channels.
Houses stand on individual plots instead of in dense rows. They are spread along the lanes, and the gaps between the streets show the green, planted character of the land.

Koteā ko Moothakunnam
Many Keralites work in the Gulf, in other Indian cities or abroad, but keep a strong tie to their home village. A map of Moothakunnam's waterways is a quiet, meaningful way to bring that landscape into a new home.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with a family house name or a wedding date. Choose from five styles: Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint turns the water channels into a particularly striking pattern.
