Te mapa
Moyale sits right on the border between Kenya and Ethiopia, in the dry north of Marsabit County. The town is split into two halves, one on each side of the frontier, and they share the same name. From above, both halves look like a single settlement, with the boundary line passing through it. The main road runs north to south through the middle.
This road is the main land route between Nairobi and Addis Ababa, so Moyale is a key crossing point for travellers, trucks and trade between the two countries. The land around the town is semi-arid and hilly, with scrub and rocky slopes. Pastoral communities from both sides of the border meet here to trade livestock and goods.
The Moyale map poster shows a town built around a crossing. The highway forms a clear vertical spine, the streets on either side of it are loose and irregular, and the boundary cuts across the middle. Around the edges, open land gives the print a spacious, quiet feel.
The international boundary runs through the town and splits it into Kenyan and Ethiopian halves. It's the defining feature of Moyale and the reason it exists.
The main road between Nairobi and Addis Ababa runs straight through the town. It forms the strongest line on the poster and connects the two halves.
Low, rocky hills and scrubland surround the town. The streets fade out quickly into this landscape, leaving wide empty areas around the edges of the map.
