Te mapa
The place listed here as Mozambique is the Island of Mozambique, Ilha de Moçambique, a slim strip of coral lying just off the northern coast in Nampula province. It gave its name to the whole country and served for centuries as the capital of Portuguese East Africa. On the map it is a small, elongated shape surrounded by open water, joined to the shore by a single bridge.
The island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its plan divides into two distinct halves. The northern part is Stone Town, with masonry streets, churches and a large fortress at the tip. The southern part, Macuti Town, is a tighter grain of lanes named for the palm-thatched houses traditionally built there. Few places show their history so plainly in the layout.
Around the island, shallow water, reefs and the mainland bay complete the picture, with the bridge drawing a thin line across the channel. A Mozambique map poster set at island scale puts the fort, the two towns and the coastline on one sheet, a compact composition with water on every side and very little that feels superfluous.
The Fortress of São Sebastião occupies the northern end of the island, its angular bastions forming one of the most geometric shapes on the whole map.
The island's two quarters show different textures: broader streets and larger buildings in Stone Town to the north, a finer mesh of lanes in Macuti Town to the south.
A single bridge several kilometres long crosses the shallow channel to the mainland, a straight line over open water that anchors the island to the rest of the country.

Koteā ko Mozambique
The island draws historians, divers, travellers on the long road north and people with family roots along this coast. As a poster it is unusually self-contained: water on every side, two towns and a fort, all within one frame.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with the date of a visit, and pick from five styles. Blueprint suits the surrounding water especially well, while Paper and Sand give the old stone streets a warmer tone. Printed posters on matte paper ship from partners in 30+ countries.
