Te mapa
Mudon is a town in Mon State in southern Myanmar, a short distance south of Mawlamyine on the road toward the south of the country. It lies on the flat coastal plain between the Andaman Sea and the forested hills inland. Rice paddies and rubber plantations fill much of the land around it.
From above, the town is organised along its main road, with side streets branching to both sides and a denser market area in the centre. Paddy fields surround the settlement on the plain, while the hills to the east rise out of the farmland. In those hills is Win Sein Taw Ya, a vast reclining Buddha that is among the largest in the world.
A Mudon map poster shows a quiet town rather than a destination, but the landscape gives it character. The straight main road, the tidy side streets and the wide open fields make a calm, balanced composition in black and white. It suits people from Mon State, and travellers who have made the trip south from Mawlamyine.
The town has grown along the main road south from Mawlamyine, and that road runs through the centre of the frame as its backbone.
Rice fields fill the flat plain around Mudon and appear as wide open space, so the town's streets stand out clearly.
In the hills near the town lies one of the world's largest reclining Buddha statues, a landmark that draws visitors to this part of Mon State.
