Te mapa
Mukdahan lies on the western bank of the Mekong in northeastern Thailand, directly across the river from the Lao city of Savannakhet. The town stretches along the riverbank in a long band, with its main streets running parallel to the water and cross streets leading down to the promenade. Behind it, newer districts spread inland across flat ground toward the rice fields.
The Mekong dominates the map, a wide, smooth expanse of water separating two countries. North of the town, the Second Thai–Lao Friendship Bridge, opened in 2006, carries road traffic across the river and anchors the overland route linking Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. On a Mukdahan map poster, that bridge is a single clear line reaching over the water.
Along the riverfront, the Indochina Market draws shoppers for goods from Laos, Vietnam and China, and the tall Mukdahan Tower offers views across to Savannakhet. To the south, the sandstone hills of Phu Pha Thoep National Park break up the otherwise flat landscape with unusual rock formations, adding texture where the terrain begins to rise.
The town follows the river in a long, narrow band, with a riverside road and promenade tracing a smooth edge between the streets and the water.
The Second Thai–Lao Friendship Bridge crosses the Mekong north of the centre, a single decisive line linking Mukdahan to Savannakhet and the road east.
The Indochina Market occupies the waterfront near the centre, a dense cluster of stalls where cross-border trade meets the town's main streets.

Koteā ko Mukdahan
Mukdahan is a border town where two countries look at each other across a great river, and that setting gives its map real character. It suits anyone who has crossed the bridge, lived along the Mekong, or has family on either bank.
