Te mapa
Mzimba is the administrative centre of Malawi's largest district, set on the upland plateau of the Northern Region, southwest of Mzuzu. From above, the town is a loose grid of streets around the boma and market. Roads lead out toward the M1 highway and Mzuzu, and homesteads are scattered across rolling countryside of grassland, farms and woodland.
The district is the heartland of the northern Ngoni, whose paramount chief, the M'mbelwa, holds an important place in regional life, and the annual Umthetho cultural festival draws large gatherings. The land around the town is high and open, and seasonal streams, dambos and cultivated plots give the map a soft, varied texture.
A Mzimba map poster shows a modest town at the centre of a large region: the core streets, the roads out to distant villages and the open plateau all around. It suits people from the district, Malawians living abroad and anyone who has worked or studied in the north of the country.
The administrative area and the market form the centre of town, where the street pattern is densest and the main roads meet.
Routes leave Mzimba toward Mzuzu, the M1 and outlying villages, forming long lines that tie the town to the country's largest district.
Around the town, gently rolling upland with streams, wetlands and farm plots gives the edges of the map an open, organic texture.

For people who have moved to Lilongwe, Mzuzu or abroad, a map of Mzimba is a quiet tribute to home. It is also a fitting gift for anyone connected to the town itself or to the Ngoni heritage of the north.
