Naas is the county town of Kildare, south-west of Dublin. On a map, the old town follows a long main street, with lanes and streets leading off it on both sides. Around this core, newer housing estates spread outward, and the M7 motorway curves around the town, forming a clear boundary to the south and east.
A branch of the Grand Canal ends in a small harbour close to the town centre, one of the more unusual features on the map. Naas is also known for horse racing, with Naas Racecourse on the edge of town and Punchestown not far away. Near the main street, the North Moat, an old earthwork, recalls the town's medieval origins.
