Te mapa
Nanling lies in the far south-west of Yunnan Province, in the hill country not far from the border with Myanmar. The terrain here is steep and folded, and settlements tend to follow valleys and ridgelines rather than spreading out in grids. From above the town looks compact, with streets adapted to the slope and roads winding out into the surrounding hills.
This part of Yunnan has a warm, humid climate and is known across China for its tea-growing hills and forests, as well as for its many ethnic communities. The land around small towns is typically a patchwork of terraces, plantations and woodland linked by mountain roads.
A Nanling map poster reflects this terrain. Its streets are few and curving, roads loop along the contours, and much of the frame remains open. The result is a gentle, organic image shaped more by the hills than by planning.
Roads bend and switch back along the hillsides, following the shape of the land and giving the poster a flowing, organic set of lines.
The town's streets gather on the flatter ground available, forming a small dense cluster among the open hills.
Forested and cultivated slopes surround the settlement and leave much of the map quiet, with only occasional paths and tracks.
