Te mapa
Narathiwat is a provincial capital in the far south of Thailand, near the border with Malaysia. It sits where the Bang Nara River reaches the Gulf of Thailand. On a map the town is framed by the river, which curves along one side and out to sea, and by a long, nearly straight sandy coastline.
The town centre gathers along the riverbank, with the market, harbour for fishing boats and older streets close to the water. Newer neighbourhoods spread inland and along the coast road. Beyond the town, coconut groves, rice fields and villages fill the flat coastal land.
A short distance south along the coast is the Taksin Ratchaniwet Palace, a royal residence in the south. The province is largely Malay Muslim, and mosques are part of the town's everyday landscape. A Narathiwat map poster shows a river-mouth town with its streets held between flowing water and open sea.
The river curves past the town and opens into the Gulf of Thailand. Its mouth, with fishing boats moored inside, is the main feature of the map.
A long, gently curving beach runs along the edge of the town. It is a clean, confident line on the poster separating streets from open water.
The market and older commercial streets are concentrated along the river, making the densest part of the map right where the town began.
