Te mapa
Navojoa lies in the Mayo Valley of southern Sonora, on level ground close to the Mayo River. On a map, the city forms a broad and mostly regular grid, with long straight avenues crossing at right angles. The Federal Highway 15 runs through it, and the surrounding land is divided into large rectangular irrigated fields.
The river runs along the edge of the urban area, a winding line that stands out against the straight roads and canals. Irrigation channels cross the countryside in long lines, extending the city's geometry into the farmland and linking it to the valley's agricultural system.
Navojoa is the main city of the Mayo region and is closely associated with the Mayo (Yoreme) people. It is also the usual starting point for visitors heading to the colonial town of Álamos in the hills nearby. A Navojoa map poster brings together the grid, the river and the field pattern in one calm image.
Long avenues cross at right angles across flat ground, creating a clear and orderly street pattern that reads easily at any print size.
The river winds along the side of the city, a soft irregular line that contrasts with the straight streets and field boundaries around it.
Beyond the city, large rectangular fields and irrigation canals continue the grid into the countryside, showing the agricultural landscape of the valley.
