Te mapa
North La Crosse is the part of La Crosse, Wisconsin, that lies north of the La Crosse River and its broad marsh. It has long had a character of its own, with a commercial main street, residential blocks and older industrial land near the river. Many residents think of it as a place apart from downtown.
The Mississippi runs along the west side, split into channels and backwaters around islands such as French Island, and the Black River comes in from the north. To the east, bluffs rise above the valley. The mix of water, wetland and hills makes this an unusual setting for a Midwestern street grid.
A North La Crosse map poster shows the grid neatly hemmed in by nature. The La Crosse River marsh forms a wide, empty band to the south, the Mississippi's braided channels fill the west, and the streets run in orderly rows between them. Few city neighbourhoods make their geography this easy to see.
A broad wetland separates North La Crosse from downtown and is crossed by only a few causeways and trails. On the print it appears as a wide band of open space.
West of the grid, the river splits into several channels and backwaters around French Island and smaller islands. These create complex, flowing shapes.
Between the rivers and marsh, streets run in tidy rows and blocks. This classic Midwestern plan gives the map a strong, even rhythm.
