Te mapa
North Massapequa lies in southern Nassau County on Long Island. It is a largely residential community, and from above it shows the regular pattern of postwar suburban development. Blocks of similar size are lined with single-family houses, and a few longer roads carry traffic across them. Major parkways and expressways cross or border the area, giving the map several strong, straight lines.
Much of the neighbourhood was built in the years after the Second World War, when Long Island's farmland was quickly turned into housing for families moving out of New York City. To the north, Bethpage State Park and its golf courses, known for hosting major championships, introduce a large area of open green land.
A North Massapequa map poster shows the order of the classic American suburb. The even grid of residential streets fills the frame, and the parkways cut through it with clean lines. In black and white, the repetition becomes a pattern that is surprisingly graphic.
Regular blocks of residential streets cover most of the area. On the map they form a dense, even texture that reads almost like a textile.
Wide highways and parkways cut through or along the community. They are the boldest lines on the map and divide the grid into sections.
To the north, the park and golf courses form a large open area. On the poster, it contrasts with the tightly packed streets below.
