Te mapa
Stamford lies on the shore of Long Island Sound in south-western Connecticut, within commuting distance of Manhattan. Its map runs from a deeply indented coastline, with Stamford Harbor, Shippan Point and small coves, north through a compact downtown and then into wooded residential areas where streets curve around ponds, reservoirs and rolling hills.
The city grew into a major business centre in the late twentieth century, when corporate headquarters moved out from New York, and its station on the New Haven Line remains one of the busiest in the Metro-North system. Interstate 95 and the railway run side by side along the shore, cutting across the city just above the harbour.
A Stamford map poster shows this layered structure clearly. The coast breaks into points and inlets at the bottom of the frame, the highway and rail corridor form a strong band across the middle, and the street pattern loosens toward the north. The Mill River threads its way from the hills down through downtown to the Sound.
The peninsula south of downtown extends into Long Island Sound, its residential streets surrounded by water on three sides and clearly outlined on the poster.
The railway and interstate run parallel across the city near the shore, a bold double line separating the harbour districts from downtown.
The Rippowam, known downtown as the Mill River, flows south through the centre past Mill River Park and into Stamford Harbor.

Koteā ko Stamford
Stamford draws people for work, family and the coast, and many stay for years before moving on. A map of the city marks that time well, for a first apartment near the station, a house on the water or an office relocation.
