Te mapa
Odessa sits in the Permian Basin of West Texas, on land so flat that the city's shape comes almost entirely from roads and rails. From above, a regular grid spreads out from the downtown area, with the railway and Interstate 20 crossing it at an angle. Beyond the edge of town, straight section roads and oil lease tracks run across open, dry country.
The city grew with the oil industry and its economy still rises and falls with it. Odessa is also known for high school football: the Permian High School team was the subject of the book Friday Night Lights. A short drive west, the Odessa Meteor Crater is one of the few impact craters in the United States that can be visited.
An Odessa map poster turns that plain geometry into something graphic. The grid is steady and even, broken only by the diagonal of the railway and the interstate, and the lines thin out into the empty land beyond. In black and white it has the look of a surveyor's drawing, a clear image of a town built on the plains for work.
Streets form a steady, regular grid around the centre, extending outward in blocks that reflect how quickly the city grew during oil booms.
The railway and Interstate 20 cross the city at an angle to the grid, cutting diagonal lines across the orderly pattern of streets.
At the edges, the dense blocks give way to straight rural roads and sparse tracks across flat land, a sharp and clean boundary on the map.

Odessa is a place people are proud of in a practical, unshowy way, a hometown of football nights and long horizons. Its map suits that character: direct, orderly and honest.
