Te mapa
Ōkawara is a town in the south of Miyagi Prefecture, spread along the Shiroishi River where the valley opens toward the Sendai plain. From above, the river is the organising line: the centre hugs its banks, the Tōhoku Main Line runs parallel nearby, and fields fill the flat land between scattered neighbourhoods.
The town is best known for Hitome Senbon Zakura, the long rows of cherry trees planted along the Shiroishi River embankment. In spring the trees line the water for kilometres, often with the snow-capped Zaō range visible in the distance. On a map that same embankment appears as a long, gentle curve of path and water.
An Ōkawara map poster captures a landscape that is calm and legible: one river, a railway, a road network that tightens near the centre and relaxes into farmland at the edges. It is the kind of small-town plan that looks elegant in black and white precisely because nothing in it is crowded.
The river crosses the town in a broad, smooth bend, its embankments forming the town's most recognisable line and the setting for the famous cherry rows.
The Tōhoku Main Line follows the valley alongside the river, a straight thread that connects Ōkawara to Sendai to the north.
Rice fields surround the centre in regular parcels, giving the outer parts of the map a fine, quiet texture of rectangles and irrigation lines.

Koteā ko Ōkawara
Many people come to Ōkawara for a single spring week under the cherry trees, and a map is a lasting way to remember that walk along the river. For locals, it is a clear portrait of the town they know.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with the date of a visit, and choose among five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Paper suits the gentle spring mood especially well.
