Te mapa
Okpo lies in Yangon Region in Myanmar, on the broad, low plain north of the city where rivers and channels cross flat agricultural land. The land has almost no relief, and much of it is given over to paddy fields. On a map the town appears as a small cluster of streets along its main road, with a pattern of fields and water around it.
Settlements on this plain tend to form along roads, railway lines and waterways, and Okpo follows this pattern. Houses and shops line the principal routes, and quieter lanes lead off them into residential areas and farmland. Water plays a large part in the landscape, both in the channels and in the seasonal flooding of the fields during the monsoon.
An Okpo map poster shows the town with its fine, linear layout and the open, level country around it. Thin lines of roads and water cross the frame, and the settlement gathers along them. The print is spare and calm and suits a place defined more by landscape than by monuments.
The town is strung along its principal route. Houses and shops line both sides and form the densest part of the map.
Streams and irrigation channels cross the surrounding plain. They add thin, winding lines to the otherwise flat landscape.
Paddy fields spread out in every direction. On the map they create a wide, level field of open space around the town.
