Te mapa
Olivais is a parish in eastern Lisbon, and its map looks very different from the steep, tangled lanes of the historic centre. Much of it was built as planned residential estates in the second half of the twentieth century. From above you see freestanding blocks set in open ground, curving access roads and a lot of green space between buildings. Lines of housing are separated by lawns and trees.
The parish lies between Lisbon's airport and the Tagus. To the east it borders Parque das Nações, the riverside district built for Expo 98. Major roads and rail lines run along its edges and give the area firm borders. Inside those borders the layout is loose and airy, and in places almost suburban.
An Olivais map poster works mainly through contrast. Strong road corridors and the airport's straight runways sit beside soft, rounded streets and open patches of park. The estuary is close enough to give a sense of wide water to the east. It is a good portrait of modern Lisbon, the city that grew outward in planned stages after the old centre filled up.
Housing blocks set in open landscaped ground create a rhythmic, spacious pattern. It feels quite unlike the dense grid of downtown Lisbon.
The long straight runways of Lisbon's airport sit next to the parish. They add strong geometric lines to one side of the composition.
To the east, Olivais meets Parque das Nações and the broad estuary. The map opens out toward water there.

Koteā ko Olivais
Olivais is a place people know from daily life rather than postcards: school routes, cafés under the blocks, walks through the green spaces. A map of it is a personal record of a real neighbourhood, which makes it well suited to a first flat or a family home.
You can add your own title, a subtitle such as a street or a year, and a coordinates line. Then pick Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand to suit your wall.
