Pallipalayam lies in Namakkal district in Tamil Nadu, on the bank of the Kaveri River directly opposite the city of Erode. The river is the defining feature of its map. It is broad here, and the town lines its bank, with bridges connecting it to the larger city on the far side. The two places form a single urban area split by water.
The town is closely tied to the region's textile industry. Weaving, dyeing and processing workshops are part of its economy, and traffic between Pallipalayam and Erode moves constantly across the river. Beyond the built-up area, the land opens into farmland watered by the Kaveri basin.
