Te mapa
Palmaria is the largest of three islands off the tip of the Portovenere peninsula, at the western entrance to the Gulf of La Spezia in Liguria. Its outline is roughly triangular. The side facing the mainland slopes gently, with woods, paths and a few buildings. The side facing the open sea drops in steep cliffs marked by caves and quarries.
Only a narrow strait separates Palmaria from the village of Porto Venere, whose waterfront and church of San Pietro stand at the tip of the peninsula opposite. On a map, the island and the mainland almost fit together, with a thin band of water between them. Beyond Palmaria to the south lie the smaller islands of Tino and Tinetto.
Palmaria is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site that also includes Porto Venere, the Cinque Terre and the neighbouring islands. For a long time the island was used by the military and for quarrying, and much of it is still undeveloped. A Palmaria map poster shows the quiet outer edge of the gulf, where the Ligurian coast breaks into a short line of islands.
A slender channel divides the island from the village on the peninsula. The two shorelines are so close that they almost seem to touch on the poster.
The south-western side falls steeply into the sea, with caves and old quarry faces cut into the rock. It is the island's sharpest edge.
Two smaller islands continue southward from Palmaria. This short chain of shapes leads the eye from the gulf out into open water.

Koteā ko Palmaria
Palmaria is often part of a larger memory of Liguria: a boat from La Spezia, a walk around the island, a day in Porto Venere. The map works well for anyone who wants the landscape of the gulf without a busy city grid.
Personalise the title and subtitle, add a date, and edit the coordinates line to mark an exact spot. Five styles, including Blueprint and Paper, let the design suit different rooms, and the digital files come without a watermark.
