Te mapa
Piracuruca lies in the north of Piauí, in a landscape of scrub, low plateaus and seasonal rivers. The town grew beside the Piracuruca river, and its older centre keeps the pattern of colonial-era settlements in the Brazilian interior: a few long streets and a square dominated by the church of Nossa Senhora do Carmo, one of the oldest in the state.
Much of the municipality's reputation comes from its surroundings. Part of Sete Cidades National Park, known for its sandstone formations sculpted by erosion into shapes that suggest ruined cities, lies within Piracuruca's territory. The park draws visitors to the region, and the town serves as one of its nearest bases.
A Piracuruca map poster shows a compact town plan with a clear heart around the church square, streets extending along the river and toward the main roads, and a loose fringe where the built area meets open land. It is a restrained image, but the colonial core gives the centre of the map real structure and weight.

The river that gives the town its name runs along its edge, a winding line that shaped where the first streets were laid out.
