Te mapa
Pobé lies in the Plateau department of southeastern Benin, a short distance west of the border with Nigeria. From above, the town is a loose cluster of streets around a main road, with compounds and yards giving way to fields and patches of woodland. There is no coastline or large river to shape it, so the road network does most of the work on the map.
The area is known for agriculture, and Pobé has long been associated with research on the oil palm, one of the region's main crops. That rural setting shows at the edges of a Pobé map poster, where the streets of the centre loosen into tracks and scattered clusters of houses rather than stopping at a hard boundary.
Printed in black and white, a place like Pobé looks less like a diagram and more like a drawing: a few stronger lines for the main routes, finer lines for local streets, and plenty of white space around them. It is a modest, honest portrait of a working town on the Plateau.
The main route through town carries most of the traffic and forms the backbone of the map, with smaller streets branching off it on both sides.
Instead of ring roads or walls, Pobé fades gradually into farmland. Scattered streets and footpaths reach outward, giving the edges of the poster an open, uneven texture.
The town sits in eastern Benin, close to Nigeria. On a wider view, roads leading east hint at the everyday links across this frontier.
