Te mapa
Quixadá lies in the dry interior of Ceará, in north-eastern Brazil, in a landscape known for its monoliths: great rounded outcrops of granite that rise abruptly from the flat sertão. The town has grown around and between them, so its streets break and bend wherever the rock appears, and the outcrops stand out as open islands on the map.
Just outside the centre is the Açude do Cedro, one of Brazil's oldest large reservoirs, begun in the 1880s after the great drought of 1877. The best-known rock, the Pedra da Galinha Choca, is named for its resemblance to a brooding hen. The writer Rachel de Queiroz, whose novel O Quinze follows the drought of 1915, had a family farm in the area.
A Quixadá map poster is unusual among city maps because the landscape is in charge. Streets fill the level ground, the reservoir spreads as an irregular pool, and the monoliths leave bold, empty shapes where no road can go. It is a map of stone and water as much as of streets.

This historic reservoir, built to secure water after severe droughts, forms a broad, irregular shape near the town. Its dam wall shows as a sharp straight line.
The most famous rock, likened to a brooding hen, is a landmark for visitors and climbers and a fitting anchor for a personal map.

Koteā ko Quixadá
Quixadá draws climbers, paragliders and readers of Rachel de Queiroz, and it means a great deal to families from the Ceará sertão. The map shows the town as it really is: a small grid set among giant stones.
Write the title in Portuguese or English, put a date, a name or a phrase in the subtitle, and adjust the coordinates. Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand each treat the rocks and water a little differently.
