Raalte lies in the Salland region of Overijssel, in the east of the Netherlands. It is a compact market town with a clear centre, from which roads run outward in several directions to surrounding villages. Beyond the built-up area, the land is flat and agricultural, divided into long fields, farmsteads and rows of trees that give the map a fine, orderly texture.
East of the town, the land rises gently towards the Sallandse Heuvelrug, a wooded ridge of low hills. On a Raalte map poster, the contrast is subtle but visible: tight streets in the centre, newer residential rings around them, and then the wide, patterned countryside where roads and field boundaries form long, straight lines.
Raalte is known in the region for Stoppelhaene, a traditional harvest festival that fills the town each summer. The rest of the year, it is a quiet regional centre for the farming villages around it, and its map reflects that role: a clear hub with spokes running outward.
