Raghunathpur is a town in Purulia district, West Bengal, on the edge of the Chota Nagpur Plateau. The landscape here is different from the green delta further east. The land is higher and drier, with red soil, open fields and rocky hills that rise suddenly out of the plain.
From above, the town is a dense cluster of lanes around a few main roads. Older neighbourhoods are packed tight, and newer growth spreads outward along the routes leading out of town. Ponds and tanks, common across rural Bengal, appear as small open shapes among the streets and fields.
