Te mapa
Salto is a town in the north of Buenos Aires Province, set in the open, fertile pampas. Seen from above, it follows the chequerboard layout typical of the region, with square blocks of equal size, a central plaza and long straight streets. The river bends along one side of town and breaks the pattern.
The Río Salto, which gives the town its name, winds past the urban area in loose meanders, a soft curve against the strict geometry of the streets. Beyond the edge of town the land is divided into large rectangular fields. Rural roads carry the same grid on for kilometres, so the farmland reads almost as a continuation of the town.
Like many towns on this plain, Salto began as a frontier outpost in the colonial period and grew into an agricultural centre. A Salto map poster captures that history in its shape: a planned grid, a river older than the plan and the slow division of the pampas into fields. In black and white it becomes a precise, quiet image.
The town is laid out in regular square blocks around a central plaza. The pattern is so even that the whole urban area reads like a finely ruled sheet.
The river curves past the town in slow loops. It is the one irregular line in an otherwise geometric plan and the natural focal point of the print.
Around the town, rural roads and field boundaries continue the grid across the flat pampas. They create a large rectangular texture that frames the urban centre.

Koteā ko Salto
People from Salto recognise the grid immediately: the same blocks they walked to school or to the plaza. The map appeals just as much to anyone who loves the order of a planned town and the calm of the pampas.
Change the title and subtitle to include a family name or an important date, and adjust the coordinates line. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint suits the grid especially well.
