Te mapa
San Gil is a town in Santander, in the Colombian Andes, and has become widely known as the country's centre for adventure sports. Rafting, kayaking and canyoning draw visitors to the rivers and canyons around it. The town itself has a colonial core, with a central square and cathedral, set above the Fonce River.
On the map, the Fonce is the main line through town. Near the river lies Parque El Gallineral, a park on a river island known for trees draped in hanging moss. The old centre follows a Spanish grid, but the blocks bend and stretch as the ground rises, so the pattern is regular in the middle and irregular at the edges.
A San Gil map poster suits travellers who passed through on the way to Barichara or the Chicamocha canyon, and people from Santander who call the town home. It shows how the river, the square and the hills fit together in a compact Andean town.
The river runs through San Gil and is the base for its rafting trips. On the map it forms a strong curving line beside the town centre.
This park on a river island is known for its moss-hung trees. It appears as a green-edged shape tucked between channels of the Fonce.
The central square anchors a Spanish-style grid whose blocks distort as they climb the hillsides, a typical pattern for Andean towns in Santander.

Koteā ko San Gil
For many travellers San Gil is where a trip through Colombia turned into an adventure. A map of the river and the old grid is a clean reminder of that time, easy to hang next to photos or on its own.
