Te mapa
San Pedro, formally San Pedro de las Colonias, lies in southwestern Coahuila, in the Comarca Lagunera, an arid basin where irrigation has turned desert into farmland. The town sits on level ground. From above, its streets form a clear grid of rectangular blocks, surrounded by the straight edges of fields and, further off, bare mountain ranges.
The region became known for cotton in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. San Pedro is closely linked to Francisco I. Madero. His family had interests in the area, and he was based here when he wrote the book that helped set the Mexican Revolution in motion.
A San Pedro map poster shows human order laid over a dry landscape. The grid is regular and wide, irrigation channels cut straight lines through the surrounding land, and the town's edges are sharply defined. In black and white, it has the quiet precision of a surveyor's plan.
The town is laid out in broad rectangular blocks crossing at right angles. They fill the centre of the poster with an even pattern of measured lines.
Farmland divided by straight channels and roads extends across the basin around the town. It is a legacy of the cotton economy that shaped the Laguna region.
Beyond the cultivated land, the basin gives way to dry ground and distant ranges. On the map, the town and its fields sit like a defined island of order.
